Mirrored Past

It started with a mirror, and slowly became a window into both of our pasts.
You have followed me to the edge of thought, but never did you pass. Allowing me to study what was happening all around me, while I stayed close to the outskirts of the lives that passed. I watched your eyes as you spoke, I listened for clues of dishonest words. But from my vantage point I could see, you may have been confident with your words, but hidden beneath you were just looking for someone that might understand that a past does not define you. A past just makes you stronger, because you overcame.
How did I know hidden behind those assertive words, you too had a secret? What made me start to wonder that maybe you were not just another mask in a world full of hidden truths? Let us go back...You remember the castle made of glass that held a key which promised a better future if we just believed. Well, that class of woven words we both shared, one day put us to the test. Reflect on our pasts and weave those memories into words. While one sunny day we met face to face, we were the last ones that held onto our woven words that now held the reflections of our pasts. But it wasn't until we exchanged those mirrors, that you realized the quiet girl you found hidden in the back, also had a past. One opposite of what your head had already claimed as a stuck-up princess, that wouldn't understand, what would soon be reflected from your mirrored past.
Time moves forward, day by day and slowly that window that gave the seer a peek into your past, transformed into an unlocked door, giving me a way to still feel safe, while allowing you a way to learn my story and for me to learn yours.
Where does a soul-mate fit into this story I tell? Without placing a name on that which we are, I can tell you that a soul-mate is found just as our story began. A match, unlike one you've had before. Someone you crossed paths with and slowly started to understand without the fear of judgment being thrown at your past. The smallest things are picked up on, and they know when you are sad, even with a mask of happiness placed in their direct path. I want you to remember though, just because you may sometimes fight, it does not lessen the fact that they are your soul-mate, because like I once said, a past does not define you, because you overcame and every second that passes becomes your past.
